Visual Saturday: Riding through fire

Maybe it’s the powerful soundtrack, maybe the simple fact that we have here a mountain bike movie that includes close-up slow motion shots of wheels racing through fire, or maybe it’s just the sheer cinematographic brilliance of it all, but in any case, I greatly enjoyed watching Ryan Gibb’s film From The Ash, featuring accomplished (and apparently heat-resistant) freerider Nico Vink racing through a recently scorched wildfire area. Besides being a nice metaphor for pushing forward and not giving up, the movie also distinguishes itself for the (not immediately visible) achievement that no live trees were harmed throughout production. Props to the people involved in the making of this spectacular film!
