Is cyberpunk becoming reality?

Both a hefty critique of the neoliberal times we live in and a homage to the cyberpunk movement of the 1980s, this thought-provoking article by Kelsey D. Atherton, published on Future Tense, is a well-worth read.

Lamenting the waned power of present-day governments and illustrating the tremendous might of a few private companies (one in particular), the article mercilessly shows that the dystopian societies we encountered in works of cyberpunky sci-fi such as Blade Runner might be just around the corner.
